Smith is No.11 for the Seminoles

It's been quiet on the recruiting front for Florida State up until today. Word broke Sunday afternoon that SW Dekalb standout Terrance Smith committed to the Seminoles. NoleDigest spoke to him after his commitment to talk about the decision to go ahead and commit.

Georgia has been good to Florida State the past few recruiting cycles, and this year looks to be no different as the Seminole coaches are pursuing several of the state's top players. Sunday one of the Peach State's best linebackers, Terrance Smith, committed to the Seminoles.

To some the commitment comes as somewhat as a surprise as many didn't know that FSU was so high on Smith's list, and that the coaches were so high on the standout linebacker. FSU has been working hard to get Terrance to commit. Sunday it paid off.

"Coach Craig has been recruiting me and I have been high on them for a while," said Smith. "I know it is early but I went ahead and committed because they only have a few more scholarships left, and I didn't want to miss this opportunity. Coach Craig was excited when I told him because they feel I am an impact player that can come in and contribute early for them."

Smith has excellent size as he is 6'4" 215 pounds. He has the potential to be a rush end on the next level, but the coaches at FSU are looking at him primarily as an outside linebacker with the potential to be a rush end on passing downs.

"I'm coming in there as an outside linebacker that can be a rush end on 3rd downs," explained Smith. "I can stand up and be an outside linebacker. I am a good push rusher; I'd say my specialty is as a pass rusher. I love to stand up as much as I do putting my hand in the dirt."

Terrance chose the Seminoles over Alabama saying that he felt most comfortable with what FSU has to offer.

"The decision came down to FSU over Alabama because I felt most comfortable at FSU and I have a good relationship with the coaches there. I have talked to all of the coaches there and I get along with them all. My cousin is Stephen Davis who played for Coach Fisher and played with Coach Craig. He told me that they are great guys and that if I went there they'd take really good care of me and can help me reach my full potential."

"I also liked how diverse the area is there," continued Smith. "You have FSU, FAMU and the town itself," continued Smith on why he likes FSU. "I think they are a good program on the way back with a new staff with new opportunities. The opportunity to play early was one thing I was looking at, and I think I can get that at FSU. The coaches have high hopes for me."

Smith visited the FSU for Junior Day back in February and says that he plans on visiting again some time during the spring. When asked if his decision is final he said he feels like his process is complete.

"I am pretty much set on my decision," explained Smith. "I may visit a couple places to make a visit but that is all it would be for. I am going to FSU."

As a junior Terrance had over 120 tackles, 15 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.
