Progress Report

The is the second and final installment of the Jon Jost interview. Jost, Florida State's strength and conditioning coach, chats about the Seminoles' progress thus far this offseason. "This is the time of year we have to set the foundation and develop the character that will become this team for next season. This offseason we have to have great unity, great chemistry, great discipline because if we don't develop now, once we get to August it's too late to do so," Jost said.

The is the second and final installment of the Jon Jost interview.

Can you talk more on what you have seen in terms of team unity and leadership.

"It has been going very well. This is the time of year we have to set the foundation and develop the character that will become this team for next season. This offseason we have to have great unity, great chemistry, great discipline because if we don't develop now, once we get to August it's too late to do so."

Can you talk about the line. You are in the stage where you need to make them bigger, quicker and stronger.

"They are doing well. Alex Barron and Ray Willis are two people who are going to have to be a key for us on the offensive line but again are in that group that is still in the healing process. Ray with his shoulder and Alex had a minor scope on his knee and he will be ready for spring ball. Not sure exactly what Willis' status will be but they are still in the healing process. Some other guys who have done a good job – (Cory) Niblock has been a person who has done a good job and trained hard. (Eric) Broe and (Matt) Meinrod are two guys that are going to have to step up and grow up and be good players for us. (Matt) Heinz is another one. They are going to have develop through this entire offseason. They have done a good job but they have continue through spring ball and summer is going to be a key for us with those guys. We are thin right now on the defensive line. I've mentioned (Jeff) Womble and Travis Johnson. Spring ball is going to be a challenge for us number wise on the defensive line particularly interior. We have quite a few guys on the ends but interior is going to be a challenge because we just don't have big numbers there."

Talk about the receivers. Jeff Bowden has challenged this group.

"Absolutely. Cro (Craphonso Thorpe) has got to respond. He has got to be a leader of that group. P.K. (Sam) and Dominic Robinson. I think people will be excited about Chauncey Stovall and Chris Davis."

Have you seen some development in terms of leadership from this group?

"Yes. This group has done a good job. Both Craphonso and B.J. Ward are each running track and were part of the track team that won the ACC Indoor Championship. That was exciting to see them part of that. They've done a good job and they need to continue to do a good job."
