McKinney Set to Visit FSU this Weekend

One of the areas where the Seminoles need to recruit well for 2011 is along the offensive line. While Florida State has 2 committed so far they are looking to add a few more to the class. One of their targets is Carver standout Quincy McKinney. NoleDigest caught up with McKinney to get the latest on his recruitment and to see when he'll be visiting FSU.

Quincy McKinney hasn't been playing along the offensive line long, but he showed last year the feet, hands and strength to be a standout lineman in college. The Columbus-Carver standout has seen his recruitment pick up recently, and he tells NoleDigest that he is learning about the process as it starts to pick up steam.

"It's a learning process to me," McKinney said of the recruiting process. "Things started picking up for me here as a couple offers are coming in each week. This is still new to me but it is exciting. I worked hard when I was younger to get here and now that I am at Carver we have a good name. I feel very blessed."

Quincy in approaching double-digit offers now as schools from all over the nation are showing interest.

"South Carolina, Duke, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Nebraska have offered me written scholarships," said McKinney. "Florida State and North Carolina have verbally offered me. Clemson and Georgia have said they are coming to see me during spring to evaluate me more before they offer."

FSU is showing interest in Quincy at both guard and tackle. McKinney admittedly doesn't know a lot about the Seminole program at this time, but he is hoping a weekend visit for the spring game will change things.

"I spoke to Coach Trickett about a month ago and he was telling me how they like me at guard and tackle," said McKinney. "Since I am not the tallest guy a lot of schools are recruiting me as a guard, but Coach Trickett said at FSU they play the athletic guys. He said there it's not about size but how you play. I liked hearing that."

"I haven't been to FSU before and I don't know much about them," continued McKinney. "I know FSU has recruited Carver hard and that Jarmon Fortson is there. I am eager to learn more about them when I go April 10th for the spring game."

Quincy says he wants to meet the coaches, see the facilities and talk to the players to see how they are and what they think of the school.

"I am going to be going down there with my head coach," said McKinney. "I want to see if I get a nice feeling there. I want to meet the coaches and see how they are as a person. I want to see if they are good coaches. I want to see their facilities. I want to talk to a few of the players and see how they are. I have been to a few universities where the players weren't that cool. I just want to get a good vibe. Finally I want to see how they are academically because that is most important."

Quincy describes himself as a hard-nosed, relentless player that doesn't stop until the whistle blows.

"I am relentless," McKinney said, "and my job is to drive my man into the ground. At the end of the game I want my opponent to say that I am good and that I am a hard-worker."
