As a quarterback Marshall is rated as Scout.com's 9th best signal caller for 2011. Chad Simmons of Scout.com says this about Marshall, "Marshall is still somewhat raw mechanically at quarterback, but he has an extremely high ceiling. He not only is one of the top football prospects in the South, but one of the top basketball prospects as well. Playing the AAU circuit during the off-season has slowed his development, but when he decides to focus on football, he can go very far. He has one of the strongest arms out there, he makes quick decisions, and he keeps plays alive with his legs." His prowess on the football field and the basketball court has caused some people in Georgia to compare Nick to former FSU great Charlie Ward.
When you look at FSU they have been very high on Marshall for some time. Ever since all-everything QB Christian Lemay cut Florida State out Nick has become a priority, but those close to the program have stated all along that Nick has always been right there with Lemay on FSU's board, maybe even above him.
Why does FSU think so highly of Nick? Well, for one he has a rocket for an arm and he has the capability to make all of the throws. For a prospect that still has work to do he shows great pocket awareness; he has a natural feel for where he is at and when the pressure is coming. His delivery is very good as he doesn't hold onto the ball too long. What makes Marshall dangerous is his ability to run. He uses his feet well to get out and create more time to find his receivers, and he knows how to get up field when the play is busted. All of the traits are things Coach Fisher looks for, and we've heard he has long been very high on Nick as a BCS quarterback.
We've heard over the past month the Seminole coaches, primarily new quarterback coach Dameyune Craig, have made major strides with Nick's recruitment. Some feel that Marshall has the ‘Noles at the top of his list. While Nick has been quiet regarding updates, he's taken a visit to FSU recently and word is that went pretty well. Those close to the program feel very good with regards to landing Marshall this year. But is he set to make that decision?
This past week rumors have persisted that Nick will be going to Georgia to play basketball. The Bulldogs are expected to land Lemay's commitment this week, thus there is no reason why Nick would be looking at the Bulldogs as a football player.
Sources and those close to Nick aren't sure what he is going to do. NoleDigest has heard that the basketball rumor is false and that he has told the coaches at FSU that he is going to be heading there to play both sports. We were told a few days ago the UGA rumors have substance. Until Nick speaks for himself all we will hear is rumors.
On FSU's end they feel very confident at this time they sit well with Nick. We'll have to sit back and see how it all unfolds.
