Catching up with Newberry

Giorgio Newberry has had a productive spring as his Ft. Pierce Central team goes through spring practice. Several schools have been by to see Newberry, including Florida State. NoleDigest caught up with Giorgio to get the latest with his recruitment.

Giorgio Newberry has emerged as one of Florida's top defensive end targets for 2011. The nation's 18th best defensive end has an offer sheet filled with the who's who of college football. With spring coming to a close Newberry has seen most of those schools come by to evaluate him. He told NoleDigest that overall it has been a productive spring.

"Spring ball has been going well and a lot of coaches have been by the school," explained Newberry. "I wouldn't say any school in particular stands out right now but it was cool to see some of the coaches come by that did."

Florida State has made two trips to Ft. Pierce Central, the most recent this past Friday.

"FSU was here for the second time this past Friday," explained Newberry. "They've told me before and they told my coaches how they'd love to have me there. Coach Stoops and Coach Eliot have been the coaches that have come by. They're still recruiting me as a defensive end."

Newberry said he isn't sure when he'll visit FSU again because he's been a few times already. He has a few trips planned for the summer but more than likely they'll be to out of state schools. One factor that will dictate his visit schedule is the classes he is taking to graduate early.

"This summer I want to start narrowing down my list so I am going to take some visits to out of state schools," said Newberry. "I am not sure yet where, though, because of the summer classes I am taking. I'm not sure when I will make a decision yet. I will talk it over with my family and go from there."
