Smith Gearing up for FSU Camp

Tom Smith is one of FSU's targets at running back for the 2011 recruiting class. Next week he'll be in town for camp, hoping to show the coaches enough to earn a scholarship. NoleDigest caught up with the Apopka, FL star to get the latest.

Apopka running back Tom Smith is one of the more intriguing recruits in central Florida for 2011. After a standout junior season where he ran for 1,651 yards and 24 TDs, Smith enters the summer with nearly 10 offers.

Tom did an update last week stating he had a top 2 of Alabama and Florida State. While neither program has offered yet he plans on camping at each school hoping to do enough to garner a scholarship offer. Smith told NoleDigest that FSU visited his school twice in the spring, but since then they haven't been in a lot of contact.

"FSU has talked about an offer but it hasn't happened yet," said Smith of the instate Seminoles. "I don't know why they haven't offered yet. I grew up a fan of FSU so I like them a lot. Coach Trickett and Coach Gran came by the school twice during the spring. They told my coaches they want to get to know me better and that they wanted me to come up to camp."

"I can't wait to get to Florida State next week though," continued Smith. "I am excited."

While FSU and Alabama are his top 2 schools Tom says he plans on staying open throughout the process.

"I'm looking forward to getting an offer from FSU at camp so I can eventually narrow it down to the school I would be most comfortable with for four years," explained Smith. "I am not going to decide early and I am going to stay open."

Smith missed Apopka's spring game with a high ankle sprain but he says he is 100% healthy heading into the summer.

Stay tuned for more on Tom and his camp experience at FSU.
