Freeman Offered by FSU, then Names a Favorite

Florida State offered a few new prospects at their camp last week, with one turning into their most recent commitment. Devonta Freeman is another target that earned a scholarship after having a standout camp. NoleDigest spoke to him about the offer and to see where he is at with his recruitment at this time.

Devonta Freeman backed up one of the top running backs in Florida last year in Brandon Gainer. This year Freeman is expected to be the workhorse for Miami-Central. The speedy and elusive back claims offers from Florida, Georgia, Cincinnati, Auburn, Minnesota, UCF and a few others.

This past week he was one of the best campers at Florida State, resulting in him coming away with an offer. He told NoleDigest the offer was a shock, and that he really enjoyed himself while in town for the camp.

"I was shocked when they offered me," said Freeman of his newest offer. "The camp itself was fun. I loved it there because the coaches made me feel like I was at home."

Freeman came into the camp looking to prove himself worthy of an FSU offer, and from all reports it looks like he was able to do that. Coach Gran and Coach Fisher praised his effort at camp, coming away impressed with his natural ability as a ball carrier.

"Coach Gran and I went over a lot of running back drills when I was there," explained Freeman. "A lot of quick feet and other drills running backs do. Coach Gran and Coach Fisher told me that they like how quick I am. They also like my balance. They feel I am ready for the next level."

One thing that stood out to Devonta was the promise from Coach Fisher that if anything bad were to happen his senior year he would have his scholarship offer from FSU to fall back on.

"Both Coach Fisher and Coach Gran like me a lot and they told me they'd like to have me in their class," said Freeman. "The one thing that stood out was Coach Fisher telling me that no matter what happens during the season, like God forbid I get hurt, that I will still have that offer."

Freeman is a new target that is emerging onto the recruiting scene this summer; therefore not a lot of people are familiar with him as a player. He says he can do it all as a ball carrier.

"I feel I can do it all," Freeman said, "from running people over to running past people. I can shake people, I can catch out of the backfield, I block well and I can line up outside and play wide receiver."

With the offer the Seminoles look to have taken the lead for the Miami-Central standout. He says he is still weighing his options and has a few schools he is looking at at this time.

"FSU is where it's at and I like that place a lot," Freeman said about FSU being his leader. I have thought about committing. I am still looking at schools like Florida, Auburn, Cincinnati and UCF."

Stay tuned for more as we track Devonta's recruitment over the next few months.
