"Rhett has a linebacker mentality out there," his head coach and father said. "He will lower that shoulder and run right over you. But he can really throw the football. Rhett has a great release and a strong arm. He can throw any pass and knows how to throw the football. He can gun it or throw it with touch. His mobility is outstanding. He just has great feet in the pocket. If there is one thing he needs to work on is that he thinks he can make every play."
The elder Bomar has been blessed in the respect he gets to coach his son and his son will be one of the most sought after prospects in the entire country among the Class of 2004.
"It really has been great. We try and leave football at the school or on the practice field. Once the game starts, we are both only concerned with winning. He just wants to win and does whatever it takes. Sometimes, he makes a great play and I catch myself for a few seconds going 'wow' and then I have to get back involved in the game again."
Bomar, at over 200 pounds, runs in the 4.5 range. Add to that his quarterback abilities and you have the makings of a super QB. According to coach Bomar, the entire Big 12, FSU, LSU, UCLA, Arizona State and Michigan have offered him a scholarship thus far.
"Right now, I favor Texas, Oklahoma and Florida State," said the Rhett. "I live in Texas and I have always liked them. Texas has been recruiting me a while now and I really like Coach Brown and Davis.
"Oklahoma caught my eye when they won the national championship a few years ago. Then, last spring, Coach Stoops came down to watch my spring practice. He doesn't do that with too many prospects and that meant a lot to me.
"Growing up, Florida State was always my favorite team. They were always the cool school. It is a dream of mine to just be recruited by the Seminoles.
Speaking of academics, Bomar is 6th in his class among 576 students and carries a 4.32 grade point average. He has been taking AP classes since middle school. This semester alone he is taking AP Calculus, US History, Physics and English. Bomar is also an outstanding baseball player. So far this season, he is hitting .500 and playing centerfield.
