Blanks Talks FSU and Recent Offers

2012 is shaping up to be a stellar year for defensive backs once again in the state of Florida. One of the best is North Florida Christian's Travis Blanks. NoleDigest caught up with Travis to get the latest on what has been an eventful summer for the 2012 standout.

Travis Blanks has had a busy few weeks. He's been out around the south checking out schools and participating in camps, showing the tools that make him a standout recruit for 2012. At 6'1" 180 pounds Blanks has the ability to play both corner and safety on the next level, so right now schools are offering him as a defensive back with plans to determine later where to play him.

"All of the schools that have offered me are looking at me as a defensive back," said Blanks. "They aren't sure if they want me as a corner or safety. I'd like to play corner but I know I may grow into a safety, which is fine. I feel that my size helps me because at 6'1" I can cover. I hit like a safety but I have the hips of a corner. I also have great make-up speed. I have a lot of confidence in my ability and I hope to someday be a 1st round draft pick."

Travis has had a slew of offers come in over the past few weeks after visiting a host of schools. He told NoleDigest about the visits and what he likes about the schools.

"Auburn and South Carolina offered me Saturday and they are trying to get me up to campus this summer and in the fall for a few games," said Blanks. "I like different things about the schools so far:"

Florida: "I went there and it is a nice school. I didn't get to talk to Coach Meyer because the camp got cut short because of rain. They have nice facilities."

Florida State: "I didn't participate in camp but I did hang out with the coaches. They offered me after my freshmen year."

Georgia: "Coach Richt offered me. I like that school. John Lilly has a good relationship around here. I will go back to see the campus."

Alabama: "Coach Saban offered me and coaches me at their camp. Kirby Smart was there too. They didn't know I could play corner until I got there."

USF: "I went there and got offered by Rick Smith."

Florida State has been tied to North Florida Christian for some time. Blanks admits that will play a role in his decision.

"The NFC and FSU thing of course will play a role," said Blanks. "It is home here. FSU has been recruiting me since my freshmen year. I have a great relationship with Coach Fisher and Coach Stoops. They will play a role. We don't talk about football. We talk about life stuff. When I was there for camp I ate lunch with them, which was great."

Travis talked a little more about Stoops.

"My relationship with Coach Stoops is a really good relationship," said Blanks. "He has made a big impact on me since arriving (at FSU). With my recruitment there are two things I am looking for: a good relationship with the coaches and a great atmosphere. I have that here with the coaches and the atmosphere here is great."

Blanks said he plans on staying open at this time, and he talked about a timeframe for his decision.

"I am going to try to visit Auburn the week after next to see the campus and check them out," said Blanks. "Right now I am open. I am getting a lot of offers so I want to stay open to those. I am thinking about an early decision. If I do it would probably be at the end of this year, at least before my senior season."
