5-Star Beal Says He's a Solid Gator

Five-star Florida basketball commit Brad Beal is the No. 2 shooting guard in 2011. At 6-3 and 180 pounds, Beal was recently captain of the gold medal USA under-17 national team and led them to dominant victories in Germany averaging 18.3 points per game. Beal was named MVP of the tournament and came away with a 47.7 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

Brad Beal's basketball IQ is pristine and he is solid on each end of the floor. He will look to continue working on conditioning to make sure he is prepared for a bigger court when he arrives at Florida. Also, he says he wants to focus on quickness and ability to pressure out on the perimeter. Billy Donovan has already emphasized the importance of creating turnovers.

Here's what the future Gator from St. Louis (MO) Chaminade College Prep had to say to FOX Sports' Laura McKeeman:

LM: What made you decide to commit to Florida and not stay closer to home at a place like KU maybe?

BB: The style of play at Florida fits me the best. I really just like what they do at Florida and I like the players already there. I think we will make each other better and we will have a really good team. I am looking forward to learning from them. Oh- and of course I like coach Donovan a lot.

LM: How did you feel knowing coach Donovan was in the stands when you played in the 2010 FIBA U17 World Championship in Germany?

BB: Wow. That was great. I was so excited to see him. Coach Donovan coming all the way there was awesome, really. It made me know he really cares and wants to see me. He told me I did a really good job too.

LM: How good can Florida be with you, Scottie Wilbekin, Kenny Boynton, and Mike Rosario in the backcourt?

BB: We're going to be good. We've got a ton of depth at guard and we will be able to press like no other. It is going to be really fun I think. I mean, I have a lot of things to work on still because those guys have a head start on me but I am trying to get better everyday. I also need to be ready to handle a big stage so I think playing in Germany helped with that a little bit. This team is going to be exciting.

LM: Talk to me about your upcoming official visit to Florida.

BB: I'm so pumped. I'm coming for the LSU football game so that will be on October 9. It will be really cool to watch the game and see how Florida fans are. I can't wait to spend more time with guys that will be my teammates too. Coach (Donovan) told me it's going to be a good time.

LM: So you'd say you're pretty solid with your commitment to Florida?

BB: Yes. I'm very solid. I love the Gators and I really couldn't imagine playing anywhere else.
