The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Florida Gators are 3-0 on the year after defeating Tennessee 31-17 in the first road contest of the season. Urban Meyer has never lost to Tennessee as the Gator head coach, running his record to 6-0.

The Good:

  • Urban Meyer is 6-0 vs. Tennessee as the Gators head coach.
  • I love the punt coverage unit as they have the ability to flip the field in a hurry.
  • John Brantley had some great intermediate passes of the 12-16 yard variety.
  • Carl Moore had some real touch catches on a few high balls showed great toughness .
  • Deonte Thompsonwent up the ladder making a great catch on a high ball .
  • Brantley for the second week in a row at times seems to get more comfortable as the game goes on.
  • Loved what Teryl Austin did defensively with the blitz package -delayed blitz, jail house blitz. He really mixed it up. I also loved the defensive line rotation.
  • Robert Clark two weeks in a row with a catch.
  • Trey Burton gets his second career TD.
  • Jordan Reed with a very nice catch after the Jon Bostic interception.
  • The Bostic interception.
  • The TD pass to Frankie Hammond (Brantlye showed great patience) was a laser. No part of the ball touched anything other than Hammond's hands. He catches everything with his hands and has a chance to be a great one if he can keep progressing.
  • Defense held Tauren Poole to 1 yard rushing in the first half.
  • Jeff Demps looks much better on the quick passes out of the backfield than in years past and must be accounted for as a receiver.
  • Jet sweeps with Demps.
  • 19 players saw action in first ever road game (Ronald Powell, Jeremy Brown, Trey Burton, Matt Elam, Cody Riggs, Neiron Ball, Darrin Kitchens, Christopher Guido, Kyle Koehne, Jonotthan Harrison, Sharrif Floyd, Robert Clark, Andre Debose, Jordan Reed, Jelani Jenkins, Stephen Alli, Kedric Johnson, Earl Okine, Dominique Easley).
  • 23 regular season wins in a row.
  • Urban Meyer is 24-2 vs. the SEC East.
  • Urban Meyer is 99-18 overall as a head coach and 60-10 at Florida.
  • 27% of those who traveled to Tennessee are true freshmen (19).
  • 41% of those who traveled to Tennessee are either true freshmen or redshirt freshmen (29).
  • 30% of those who traveled to Tennessee made their first road trip.
  • Gators have had multiple interceptions in the first three games of the season.
  • Jeremy Brown with his second interception of the season and multiple pass breakups, making it even more impressive it was after the blown TD play that he really seemed to step up and make plays for his team. You must have a short memory out on that island and that is exactly what he did and it was very impressive.
  • Great fake punt (Meyer 8-for-8 on fake punt calls at UF).

The Bad:

  • You had to reach into your bag of tricks and show a fake punt.
  • Did not have one rush for more than 10 yards in the first half.
  • With less than two minutes to play in the first quarter Florida had 20 yards of total offense and Tennessee had 26.
  • Florida failed to score first for the second straight week and have been shutout in the first quarter of all three games.
  • Gators could not pick up 3rd-and-1 or 4th-and-inches out of the I-formation.
  • Couple blown coverages in the secondary.
  • Gators start slow again on offense. First three possessions Gators had four first downs and five rushing yards.

The Ugly:

  • 49 rushing attempts (Demps 26) averaged 3.1 YPC. Brantley held to less than175 yards passing for third straight week. Longest play of the day was a fake punt.
