NEXT UP MICHIGAN State - #7 SEED
1st Round defeated Colorado 79-64
The Spartans shot 46%, made 7 three pointers and out-rebounded the tough Buffaloes for the victory. Offense has been the problem this season and they were led by Chris Hill's 14 and Erazem Lorbek's surprising 17 off the bench helped the Spartans jumped out to a 44-29 lead at the half and cruised to victory.
Michigan St. is a physical defensive team who can get into transition. They are a very good rebounding team who out-rebounded it's opponents by 5.9 rebounds a game. They hold teams to 40% shooting and more importantly 33% from behind the arc. The offense is led by 2nd Team all Big Ten performer guard Chris Hill who averages 14.3 ppg and almost 4 assists. Aloysius Anoganye is a force on the glass and was a freshman on the 2000 team that defeated UF in the title game. Slovenian Erazem Lorbek came off the bench at the forward position to lead the Spartans to a victory against Colorado. Alan Anderson had 15 and is a versatile three who has ability. Michigan St. has Adam Ballinger on the inside who is another 6'9" senior who was on the 2000 team. They are young off the bench they do bring in big bodies. They have won 9 of 12 and are one of only three teams to beat Kentucky this season and that was in Rupp Arena.
Look for UF to get into more of it's high pick and roll using Bonner, Lee and Drejer. With the Spartan man defense penetration by Hamilton and Roberson is a must on the offensive end. UF can get some transition points if it rebounds and outlets quickly because all five Spartans go to the offensive glass. Michigan St.'s perimeter game has been suspect all season so look for UF to settle into some zone after early man to man. Billy likes to start in man and see if he can get the opponent into UF's Tempo. This is a game that has Matt Bonner written all over it. Florida can win if everyone else is on, but if the big Redhead brings his "A" game he will get 25 and the Gators are on to San Antonio.
