Meyer From His TV Show

Gator coach Urban Meyer had very little to say after Saturday night's loss at Alabama. His post-game press conference reportedly lasted about two minutes. Therefore we decided you might want to hear the key things he had to say about the loss to the Crimson Tide.

The comments are from "Florida Football with Urban Meyer", which aired Sunday at noon on Sun Sports.

General thoughts on the game:

"Our guys played hard. The two areas we take pride in around here in big games are turnovers and red zone efficiency. You add that (the failure in both categories) against a talented team on the road and the score's going to get out of hand. (I'm) very disappointed in a lot of areas, but the guys played hard. We're a young team and we've got to get better."

On the two key areas:

"You take that opening drive on offense. We drive it the length of the field in that atmosphere and we get it all the way down to the 1-yard line. Then we lose a yard and go for it on fourth down. Any time we got in the red zone we seemed to self destruct."

On the Gators holding Alabama to 273 yards total offense:

"Our defense played well enough for us to get out there and compete in the second half and then we turned that thing over for a pick-six and that set us back."

On Duke Lemmens play – eight tackles and a sack:

"(Duke is effective) whenever he plays that stand up position. You remember he did that against Tennessee and was our defensive player of the game. You'll see more and more of him standing up and letting him use his athleticism and heart to go and make plays."

On the offense performance overall:

"I wouldn't say we moved the ball real well. We had three or four times where we had 10 plays, but we also had a bunch of three-and-outs. That's not what you have to do in that situation when you're facing a talented team with two backs, that quarterback and receivers. I we walk away with (touchdowns) instead of (turnovers and) field goals we'd have had a chance."

On coping with the loss and bouncing back:

"Every season but one we've had a mid-season loss. We'll find out. The leaders said some very direct things in the locker room about how we fix issues around here. It's very simple. You work in areas where you're struggling. There was no magic solution in '06. There was no magic solution in '08. When a team struggles you come out and you work harder and you get a little better."
