FightinGators.com Top 13 -- Week 5

The Gators got clobbered. Texas falls again while Stanford gets a bit of a reality check. There are some surprising things happening up in Michigan and the BCS busters won't go away.

With that, here is our weekly ranking of the nation's top 13 teams.

1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. Ohio State
4. Boise State
5. TCU

6. Nebraska
7. Oklahoma
8. Auburn
9. Utah
10. Arizona

11. Arkansas
12. Miami
13. LSU

And for our weekly dubious achievement awards:

Cody Jones ---- Florida --- Specifically the Gators lack of red zone production. After being a much improved team in the red zone the first four games they reverted back to their old ways in Tuscaloosa. Florida made four trips and came away with one field goal.

Laura McKeeman ---- USC --- Revenge must have tasted very sweet for the Washington Huskies and USC must have a very sour taste in their mouths after that 32-31 loss in a game they should have won. The Trojans have an angry Stanford team next week...Uh oh, Lane!

Bob Redman ---- The SEC East --- We knew the West was better than the East this year, but not this much better. The East not only went 0-3 in East/West games on Saturday, but SEC East teams also lost to UConn and Colorado. It's pretty sad when South Carolina's off date is the best performance by any team in the division.

Larry Vettel ---- Tennessee Vol coaches --- I really don't like picking on my friends from Rocky Top two weeks in a row but I must. Tennessee, twice, was one play from victory in Baton Rouge, but came up short of the upset. The coaches get the dubious distinction from me for having 13 men on the field for what would have been the final play of the game. Head coach Derek Dooley blamed the officials for not giving his team enough time to substitute to match LSU's substitutions. To an extent he's correct, but it doesn't justify four guys coming on to the field and only two leaving.

That's this week's poll. Next week's schedule is a really good one. It will feature two big showdown games in the SEC with Florida hosting LSU and South Carolina entertaining Alabama. Florida State and Miami decide which one if the closest to being "back". Also Nebraska takes to the road to face unbeaten Kansas State and two surprising 5-0 teams, Michigan and Michigan State meet up in Ann Arbor.
