Higdon's Take: Mike Blakely

The nation's No. 25 ranked running back checks in from Bradenton (FL) Manatee. Blakely a 5-9, 195-pound wrecking ball of a runner has legit 4.45 speed with great vision and balance.

Mike Blakely gets better as the game gets going and is looking at only three at this time: Auburn, Florida and South Carolina. It is well documented regarding his close relationship with South Carolina freshman wideout Ace Sanders. Sanders and Blakely are as tight as brothers but what many don't know is Sanders has told Blakely not to come to South Carolina just because that's what he did.

Blakely has gone back and forth with Auburn and Florida for as long as I can remember repeatedly claiming either the Tigers or Gators as his leader. At this time he has stated Auburn is the team to beat. It goes deeper than that as the Auburn coaching staff has done a great job of explaining to Blakely that he will be used as a true freshman along side Michael Dyer the way Trent Richardson was used year one a long side Mark Ingram. Blakely firmly believes that will happen his first year at Auburn. Working against the Gators is Demps, Gillislee and Brown who all return and Blakely thinks the path of least resistance lies with Auburn and not Florida.

Blakely does not live with his real mother and his legal guardians both went to the University of Florida and this will be a classic case of who wins out in the end, prospect or parents? Most everyone close to Blakely would like to see him stay close to home that is without question but what's also not up for debate is Blakely's desire to attend Auburn. As of today it is unclear when Blakely may take his official visit to Florida or South Carolina. Early on in the process he was going to be in Gainesville for the LSU game and in Columbia as the Crimson Tide pay the South Carolina Gamecocks a visit. Where will he end up is anyone's guess, but as of today it's War Eagle.
