Tuesday Practice Notes

Here are today's practice notes from Gator spring football.

Today, the Gators practiced in full pads.

Personal Update
Reggie Lewis – injured foot (wore a boot)
David Kenner – back at practice
Eric Holcombe – back at practice
Maurice Mitchell – back at practice. He is now running 2nd team behind Billy Griffin.

News and Notes
Patrick Dosh ran with the first team. Ingle Martin was with the 2nd and Gavin with the third. Dosh was sharp in his first seven on seven. He struggled in the red-zone and in the two-minute drill. Dosh had a nice TD slant pass to Ratliff and ran the option for a TD. Martin made a couple of nice throws, including a deep comeback to Vernell Brown, showing good arm strength.

Channing Crowder is running first team MLB and getting very comfortable. Matt Farrior and Brian Crum are the other starters for now.

Dallas Baker is ahead of Kelvin Kight for today. Keiwan Ratliff and Carlos Perez are also running with the first team but remember that Florida will rotate a ton of receivers. Reggie Vickers continues to get better (2nd team). Physically he is at about 70%.

Right now, Keiwan Ratliff is the most impressive receiver.

The starting defensive line for team drills today was Darrell Lee, Bobby McCray, Sylvester McGrew, and Rod Dowdy.

DeShawn Wynn continues to impress. He reminds me of Errict Rhett.

The running backs are working a lot on ball security. New RB Coach Mike Locksley had great success at Maryland with Lamont Jordan and Bruce Perry. He wants the Florida RBs to carry the ball slightly different than what they have been doing in the past.

Ciatrick Fason is getting better and looking more comfortable at catching the football out of the backfield.

The offense continues to work the tight ends and Ben Troupe is having a good camp.

Nick Brooks and DeShawn Carter have been the starting cornerbacks. When they go to nickel, Brooks moves to the inside and Trermaine McCollum becomes the 5th DB. Larry Kendrick and Matt Jackson got a lot of work at corner.

The OL continues to be impressive with their run blocking.

Offensively today, they worked on mid-range passing game, inside run package and option.

Defensively, Travis Harris continues to make great progress at defensive end and looks to be a factor this fall.

Defensively today, they worked on a lot of nickel and dime situations.

They finished practice with the two-minute drill and by the end spring, Coach Zook said that they will have all their special teams in.

They will practice Thursday and have more scrimmaging Saturday morning.
