News and Notes

Quarterback Ingle Martin continues to impress with another strong practice effort. He was 6/9 in open field pass skeleton (seven on seven). He threw a beautiful TD pass to Keiwan Ratliff. Ratliff ran a skinny post against a cover 2 and beat Corey Bailey for the touchdown. Bailey went for the interception instead of the tackle. It was a great throw by Martin and a nice catch in traffic by Ratliff. In the red-zone, Martin was 6-8 with two TD passes.

Gavin Dickey worked with the number twos. He was 2-5 in the open field and 0-3 in the red-zone, including an interception (Tremaine McCollum). Dickey tried to force some throws today.

Patrick Dosh worked with the number threes. He was 2-2 in the open field and 0-1 in the red-zone.

The star of the day was wide receiver Terrence Holmes. He showed the ability to get deep and made a super catch over the middle. He is now playing outside receiver (Z) after starting spring practice at one of the inside positions. He also beat Jermaine McCollum on a deep post in one on one drills. Holmes made several nice plays. So did Ratliff and Jemalle Cornelius. Cornelius made a very nice catch on an under thrown fade pattern against Nick Brooks.

DeShawn Wynn looked good again today. You can tell he is playing with much more confidence at both the run and pass game. He ran with the ones today, Jimtavis Walker with the twos and Ciatrick Fason saw virtually no action (likely because of three fumbles in scrimmage). Walker struggles trying to catch passes today.

The second team OL is making great strides and they are starting to catch up with the starting unit. Anthony Guerrero is a solid #2 at center now.

The offense worked on the run game and some sprint out packages and the defense reacted very well.

The defense worked a lot on nickel with Johnny Lamarr and Matt Jackson working at the starting cornerback positions. DeShawn Carter and J. McCollum backed them up. Lamarr had the most consistent practice. The two starting linebackers in the nickel package were Matt Farrior and Channing Crowder. They struggled at times in pass coverage. Farrior did give up two TDs. The young CBs also struggled today. Guss Scott and Corey Bailey had solid days.

Travis Harris continues to make progress at defensive end.

Todd McCollough getting more comfortable playing against the run.

Taurean Charles has been re-instated and he was back at practice. He will slowly work his way into the rotation.
