Lacrosse Ranked No. 17 in Preseason Poll

Heading into the second season of the program, the Florida lacrosse program hasn't wasted any time gaining national respect. During the 2010 season, they became the sixth lacrosse program in NCAA history to record at least ten wins in their inaugural season. With a young roster, Lacrosse Magazine tabbed the Gators as the No. 17 team in their preseason poll.

The Gators return 24 letter winners from last year's squad. That number includes 11 returning starters and 19 members from the program's inaugural recruiting class that was ranked No. 1.

Sophomore attacker Ashley Bruns returns to the team after being named the Rookie of the Year by three lacrosse publications. All three publications named her Rookie of the Week at least twice. She led all freshmen in the nation in points, while coming in second in assists and third in goals.

Brittany Dashiell and Jamie Reeg also return to the Gators after receiving All-ALC honors.

Of the 27 members of the team, only two are upperclassmen, in juniors Caroline Cochran and Rachael Zimmerman. Cochran transferred from Virginia to join the Gators, and Zimmerman transferred from North Carolina. Zimmerman was a team captain for the Gators in 2010.

Defending national champion Maryland will start the season at No. 1. The Gators are one of four ALC members to be in the preseason poll. No. 2 Northwestern, No. 11 Vanderbilt and No. 15 Penn State round out the rest of the ranked team from Florida's conference.

The Gators open the 2011 season on the road February 12 at North Carolina, who was ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll. The home schedule begins on February 20 when the Gators host the University of Denver at 12 p.m.
