Muschamp Names Five Assistants

Will Muschamp didn't waste any time hiring some of his assistant coaches. During his first official day as the head coach of the Gators, Muschamp named five assistants to his staff, including three head coaches being retained from Urban Meyer's staff.

The three coaches who will remain on staff are Stan Drayton, D.J. Durkin and Brian White. The two hires from outside are Aubrey Hill and Travaris Robinson.

Drayton will continue to coach running backs and serve as the recruiting coordinator. Durkin will serve as the linebackers and special teams coach. White will continue to coach tight ends.

"I thought it was important to have some continuity in the staff – D.J., Stan and Brian bring that to the table," Muschamp said. "They are also solid recruiters."

Hill returns to Florida after playing in college for the Gators. The 38-year-old spent the previous three seasons as the wide receivers coach at Miami. Before Miami, Hill was the receivers coach at Pittsburgh.

Hill played for the Gators from 1991-1994 and won three SEC Championships in that time. The receiver caught 86 passes, including 18 touchdowns, during his collegiate career. Hill served as a graduate assistant on Steve Spurrier's staff from 1996-1998. Hill also has strong recruiting ties to south Florida and served as the recruiting coordinator for the Hurricanes before leaving to coach at Florida.

"Aubrey is obviously a Gator, and it's always a plus when you have someone coach at their alma mater," Muschamp said. "He understands the passion and the expectations here, and I know he is excited to return to Gainesville."

Robinson reunites with Muschamp after working together at Auburn. Robinson started his coaching career as a graduate assistant during the 2006 and 2007 seasons when Muschamp was the defensive coordinator at Auburn.

Robinson spent the 2008 season as an assistant at Western Kentucky before spending 2009 as an assistant at Southern Miss.

He was on the Texas Tech coaching staff last season, serving as their secondary coach. Robinson is a Miami native and has recruiting ties in south Florida.

"Travaris worked on our staff at Auburn and is a winner. He has competed at the highest level in this sport and is a good young coach with strong ties to the South Florida area, which will benefit us in recruiting."

There are still openings on the Florida staff. The recruiting dead period ends on Tuesday, and coaches will then be allowed to hit the road again.

"This is a good start to our coaching staff, and I hope to have some additional announcements this week," Muschamp said.
