Wynn Continues to Impress

With spring practice winding down, DeShawn Wynn continues to make his case as the top running back on campus in Gainesville. Here are today's news and notes as the Gators held a surprise srimmage in the Swamp.

Injury Update
Ran Carthon did not practice but may go Saturday. He has a foot injury.
Willie Green had one of his knees scoped today. He is out for the rest of spring.
Todd McCollough left practice early with a broken nose.
Billy Griffin sustained a slight shoulder injury. He should play on Saturday.
Ciatrick Fason was held out of practice with a sprained toe.
Vernell Brown sat out practice and rode a stationary bike. Injury unknown.

Today, Florida held an unexpected 90-minute scrimmage in the Swamp with referees. The start once again was running back DeShawn Wynn. He does a great job of running between the tackles and cutting back. I firmly believe he is the best running back on campus and he has been spectacular lately. He scored on a 40 yard plus option from Gavin Dickey. He also had a nice TD off a counter play with a great block by Max Starks. Jimtavis Walker ran with the number twos today.

During the scrimmage, Florida worked on 7 on 7, red-zone offense, open field and the two minute drill.

Gavin Dickey worked with the number ones. He had a pretty good day and threw only one interception. The starting wide receivers were Jemalle Cornelius, Keiwan Ratliff and Dallas Baker. The number two receivers were Carlos Perez, Kelvin Kight and OJ Small. Kight had a few nice runs after catching some screen passes. Tight end Ben Troupe had another big day with several catches.

The offensive line was very impressive once again, especially in the running game. Ryan Carter got some work with the number ones as well. Lance Butler continues to work with the number ones at tackle.

Florida worked a lot on bootlegs and roll outs.

Ingle Martin worked with the number twos. He had a nice TD pass to OJ Small and threw a great square in pass to Reggie Vickers. Martin threw two interceptions (Corey Bailey and Jarvis Herring). Daryl Dixon intercepted a Dickey pass.

Defensively, Guss Scott made several nice plays including a great pass break up. Johnny Lamarr and Matt Jackson were working with the ones at CB. Nick Brooks and Larry Kendrick were working with the twos. Kendrick had a good day.

Channing Crowder (SAM), Todd McCollough (MIKE) and Matt Farrior (WILL) were the starting linebackers. Brian Crum, Taurean Charles and Dwright Jackson were the backups. When the Gators go to nickel, McCollough comes out and Corey Bailey comes in. When they are in the package they really struggle to stop the run.

Ron Dowdy and Kenny Parker were the starters at DT. DE Darrell Lee has been the best and most consistent lineman. DT Eric Holcombe has the most upside but he is now where near playing shape and he has struggled.

The defense finished the scrimmage strong and played with some enthusiasm. But the story continues to be running back DeShawn Wynn and the run blocking of the offensive line.
