Coach Talks About Brissett and Maggitt

Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer High School has been home to some of the absolute elite talent among high school ranks over the last few years and head coach Jack Daniels has coached them up to a state title and more. Two of the mainstays on that squad have been Jacoby Brissett and Curt Maggitt who both have big decisions left regarding their college recruitment. Coach Daniels gives us the latest.

For Daniels, it is going to be tough watching the next line of superstars leave his program. Among studs on his 2009 state championship team, he saw three of them in Gerald Christian, Matt Elam, and Robert Clark sign scholarships with Florida. He has already seen tight end Nick O'Leary commit to Florida State in this 2011 class and will likely have others that sign with colleges.

Jacoby Brissett and Curt Maggitt are the two headliners left to commit and Daniels talked a little about each.

Jacoby has it narrowed down to four schools…Florida, Miami, Wisconsin, and Washington," Daniels said. He just got back from Washington tonight and from what I gather he had a great visit."

The Badgers seem to be one of those programs that is always mentioned with Brissett at this stage.

"With Wisconsin he likes the pro-style offense and the chance to compete early there," Daniels said. "He likes coach Bielema and Paul Chryst a lot, the defensive coordinator that is recruiting him."

The Gators pose a different set of circumstances for Brissett than they did just a month ago. There are also a lot of questions on the depth chart at Florida at the quarterback position.

"As far as Florida, he hasn't told me this, but I think Jacoby has always been a Gator fan," Daniels said. "His best friend is Matt Elam and I think with the offensive change there it is very appealing to him."

The Hurricanes have made a very quick impression on Brissett and have managed to sneak in a crack at his final official visit this weekend.

"Miami was way down but have been working real hard to get Jacoby," Daniels said. "Again it is a chance to play early. I think he likes Coach Golden and Coach D'Onofrio that is recruiting him. It is also very close to home."

As for Curt Maggitt, he is another that has been keeping his recruitment close to the vest. Coach Daniels kind of continued that along when asked what his impressions of what Maggitt was thinking about his collegiate choice.

"He liked Tennessee (just visited), and loved Coach Dooley and the d-coordinator at Wisconsin," Daniels said. "I think Curt has always dreamed of being a Gator also. They were the early leaders and then fell a little bit, now we will see how they come back."

Because of the coaching transition, a lot of different coaches for Florida have been in to see Maggitt.

"They have had a lot of guys on him," Daniels said. "Bryant Young, Dan Quinn has been here, and will be here tomorrow. Charlie Weis, Aubrey Hill, and Coach Muschamp have all been here."

Brissett and Maggitt are two of the Gators main targets heading into the last week of this 2011 recruiting cycle. It appears the gators are going to be in the mix for both till the very end.
