Mann Among Boys

Florida recently offered defensive tackle Jafar Mann who is really starting to tally up the scholarship offers from major college programs. The Stone Mountain (GA) Stephenson junior is becoming a hot commodity and is still growing into the position that schools want him to play. At 6-4 and 280 pounds, Mann is a man among boys in the trenches. He and his teammates will visit Florida this week.

With his most recent offers from Florida and South Florida, Jafar Mann is currently up to 16 offers and counting. The beast of an interior defensive lineman with the nickname ‘Dread' uses his size and strength to make things easy for him inside. He wants to improve technique as a senior by hopefully playing on one side of the ball.

"My strength is my height and my power," he told FOXSports and Scout.com Friday. "I am starting to work on my speed right now too. I play offensive line and defensive line, but I am trying to get people to step up on offensive line so I can play full time on defense."

Florida assistant Travaris Robinson is in charge of recruiting Stephenson and was the bearer of the good news of an offer last week to Dread's head coach.

"Coach Robinson called to talk to our coach and offered Jarontay Jones, Mike Davis, Raphael Kirby, and me," Mann said. "I talked to him on the phone and he told me what was going on. They saw my highlights and said the coaches loved it. He said they like me as an interior lineman, a three-technique."

He doesn't know if he will play a three-technique, one-technique, or nose in college and that is why he wants to spend his time just playing defense this fall.

"This is my final year so I am going to focus on getting myself into position to specify where I will play in college," he said.

School is a factor in his college decision, but he isn't honed in on any specific one at this time. He would like to major in business and follow in the footsteps of his uncles who promote people and clubs in Georgia.

"My dad likes Georgia and Georgia Tech, but that won't matter to me," Mann said. "I have to do what is best for me. School is going well. I like Science. I will probably look into business school in college."

Florida is in dire need of defensive linemen after undersigning at the position in 2011. Mann and his teammates will visit Florida on February 19 and the Gators can show him everything they are about at the time.
