Jarron Jones Talks Florida Offer

You have to say one thing about Jarron Jones, even for someone that has never seen him play or met him in person. The guy comes off as honest as anyone you will interview in this business. The big (6-6, 305) defensive tackle from Rochester (NY) is beginning to line up suitors for his football playing prowess. The Gators are in that line and he talks a little bit about the recent Florida offer.

Jarron Jones is a terror on the football field and maybe in the classroom as well, at least that is what he would tell you. Because of that, his final destination in college is going to be somewhere that he feels can best help him with that part of his persona.

"I can work school wise, but I'm not really into school," Jones said via phone on Wednesday. "I will start making some decisions about trimming down lists for college. I really need to look at academic support. That is pretty much what I really need to look at."

The Rochester (NY) Aquinas Institute star had a great season in 2010 highlighted by a state championship that he was a big part of. It seemed when the games were bigger, Jones was at his best.

"In the state championship game I had 13 tackles and a sack," he said. "In the state quarters I had an interception, two sacks, six tackles (four for loss), and a forced fumble."

Earlier this week, the Gators offered a scholarship to play football and are in dire need of defensive linemen. True to form, Jones wasn't blowing himself up and a tad modest.

"I don't know what it is they like about me," he said. "I guess it's the size and athleticism and I don't give up on plays."

"I have some interest in Florida. They are a good team and won the national championship three years ago. I called the defensive line coach, offensive line coach, and the head coach.

"Coach Quinn talked a lot about Florida and that they have over 100 options for majors at Florida. That will leave me with more options for what I want to study."

Florida seemed to like that Jones, even at 300 plus pounds is a versatile athlete.

"They said they were recruiting me as a defensive tackle and a defensive end," he said. "I guess they like my mobility."

As far as the recruiting process goes, he will likely visit a few places before the 2011 season gets rolling.

"I might take a visit down to Rutgers in the next month or so," he said. "I'm going to a camp down there on March 12. I am going to try and visit some schools in the summer."

Jarron Jones is one prospect that we will continue to monitor closely throughout this recruiting season.
