Carter Making Impressions

Robert Carter of Thomasville (GA) is starting to make a big splash. That may not be too difficult for a guy that is 6-9 and 245 pounds, but Carter has felt a little under appreciated. Now up to number 11 overall in the latest FOXSports / rankings, that splash that Carter is making is starting to make waves around the country. He spoke to about how things are going.

Robert Carter is a big man with all the tools. He can drive, shoot, rebound, and block shots. He shoots very well for a big guy and that makes him one of the most sought after basketball players in the class of 2012.

"It is going good," carter said late last week. "I am getting a lot of calls. Everybody is calling me right now and I am up to over 50 offers. All of the time on the phone, I am getting kind of used to it and just pick up the phone when I want to."

Carter has already been busy on the AAU circuit with the Atlanta Express and will certainly be busier when school lets out on May 20th. He has already played in the Real Deal, KnoxVegas, and Wallace Prather tournaments.

Right now he is still opened to everyone, despite the hassle of his phone ringing all the time and he knows that would help to alleviate that a great deal.

"No top schools, if I did I wouldn't have all of these schools calling me," he said with a chuckle. "I am trying to knock the list down by this summer. As soon as I am done touring I will knock it down to about seven."

The Florida Gators are certainly a team that he entertains and is interested in. The Gators are in real need of bigs and Carter is perfect for what style of play.

"Florida is still on the list, they call and come down and see me," he said.

Norm Roberts has been making a recruiting splash as a new assistant with Florida and Carter said Roberts is someone he can relate to.

"Coach Roberts is the guy calling me," he said. "He is cool and calls when he can and sends me a lot of mail. They let me know that they really want me."

The interview was conducted before Carter realized that he made a gigantic leap in the Scout / FOX rankings. But his work ethic has evidently paid off and his number 11 overall ranking is a sign of that.

"I do so much I just try and get better at what I do," he said of his vast skill set. "I think with the guys that rank people, they like more athletic posts. I am real athletic, but I don't use it all with (the skills that I have). I am trying to use that athleticism more. I have a lot of good post moves around the rim, but I don't do a lot of dunking. I am just really working a lot on my athleticism."

As mentioned, that athleticism has caught the eye of the guys that make the rankings and it also has caught the eye of college scouts everywhere. He could write his ticket to any school, but he is starting to get a feel for what he is looking for in a program.

"I want a school that is really recruiting me and I feel comfortable with the staff," he said. "I want someone I have a good relationship with the coach."
