Gators Earn No. 2 Overall Seed

Florida was awarded with the No. 2 national seed after splitting the SEC regular season championship and winning the SEC Tournament championship on Sunday. The Gainesville Regional will begin play Friday at noon, and the Gators will host Manhattan at 4 p.m. on Friday.

The Regional isn't easy. The NCAA committee sent Miami to Gainesville as the No. 2 seed. The Hurricanes are two-seed with the third highest RPI in the country. The two higher RPIs as two-seeds were sent to teams that were not given national seeds.

The Gators swept Miami in Gainesville earlier this season, but they have played better as the season went on. Florida won the opener 8-3 behind three runs driven in by Josh Adams and a home run for Austin Maddox. The Gators won game two 1-0 behind seven innings of shutout ball from Hudson Randall. Florida completed the sweep with a 5-3 win behind a home run from Preston Tucker and two RBIs from Daniel Pigott.

Jacksonville was given the No. 3 seed in the Gainesville Regional. The Dolphins will come in with plenty of confidence after recording an 11-2 win over the Gators two weeks ago. They feature a powerful lineup with enough pitching to have success.

Florida will host No. 4 seed Manhattan on Friday at 4 p.m. The MAAC champion Jaspers come to town with a 34-17 record. They have three starting pitchers with a sub-4.00 ERA and a lineup with 32 home runs.
