Nation's #2 SF Talks a Little Florida

Alex Poythress can write his ticket to almost anywhere, but he has some business to attend to first. The #2 ranked small forward in the 2012 class spends a lot of time on the AAU circuit trying to get better. The Florida Gators have certainly taken a hard look at Poythress and he has been in contact with the Florida staff a bit. At 6-8 and 200 pounds with all kinds of ability, he is a natural fit.

Show up at a national AAU type event and you are likely to Alex Poythress. The talented wing man from Clarksville, TN doesn't know the word rest, especially in the summer and he continues to work on his game in the big tournaments.

"Over four of five months, it's about 50 days I will be on the road, it could be even more," he said about the long grueling summer tour of tournaments. "It is a little grinding but I got used to it. I have been doing it since I was little."

Although he has a ton of offers and is looking everywhere, Poythress really can't name a top group of schools that he is interested in. But, the Florida Gators are one team he is strongly considering.

"No top list yet, I am trying to evaluate things," he said. "…I like Florida a lot. I talk to Coach Pelphrey and Coach Donovan. We talk about fitting in the system and how they can develop me and stuff like that."

The Gators play up and down the court and really rely on a strong defense in their game plan and that suits Poythress to a tee who the Gator staff reminds them of some Gator Great players.

"I do think that I would fit at Florida," he said. "They say I play little like Chandler Parsons and a little like Corey Brewer."

His final decision will be based on the program that will inevitably get him to the highest level of basketball.

"It is all about player development and the coaching staff," he said of how he will choose a place to play college ball. "I just want the school that is best for me."
