Florida Commit Likes to Hit

When 2012 4-star linebacker Jeremi Powell committed to the University of Florida the coaching staff said five words to him, "The Gators just got better." Those same five words have stuck with Powell and he says it touched him a lot. Fightin' Gators Milani Beaudrault caught up with the 2012 UF commit to find out why he is so excited to call himself a Gator.

Jeremi Powell has never been to a game in The Swamp, but this fall he plans to change that. The Florida commit says he is going to the opening game of the season and adds, "I can't wait to see what I'm going to be apart of, I've heard great things."

"I want to hear the crowd, I hear it is amazing. Listening to the roar of the stadium will be great, they say it shakes the ground and I want to see for myself," Powell said.

Powell says his commitment to Florida is solid and adds, "I'm 100 percent a Gator and other schools are realizing that." For Powell, the decision to be a Gator was simple.

"It felt like home and my family is not very far away. The coaches are amazing, the facilities are off the chain, and the campus caught my eye as soon as I got up there," Powell said.

When Powell made his decision he wanted to feel apart of a family and Coach Muschamp had a huge part in that for Florida.

"He is a cool dude and he is fired up. He is a defensive coach, which is a big plus for me but most of all he is a family guy. Family is his number one priority and I fell in love with that," Powell said.

Powell is looking forward to earning some early playing time and hopefully a starting job. But most of all, Powell is excited to find out what college life is all about.

"I am looking forward to see how people really are on campus and if it's really like a fantasy world like people say. I hear college is amazing but I want to see for myself if the fantasy world part is true," Powell said.

When asked why he is so valuable to the Florida Gators, Powell said "I like to hit, it's crazy. I'm determined and I ain't giving up. I will never quit, I'm Jeremi Powell, I'm no one else and I give it my all every play."

Powell has aspirations to become an EMT and plans to take classes to fulfill that goal.
