Howard and Nixon Named to Outland Watch List

The success of Florida's season will be decided by both lines of scrimmage. With depth concerns on both sides, the Gators had two players recognized on Friday. Defensive tackle Jaye Howard and offensive lineman Xavier Nixon were both named to the 2011 Outland Trophy Watch List.

Howard was also named to the 2011 Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list.

The defensive tackle heads into his senior season after playing 31 games for the Gators and 12 starts. In his career, Howard has recorded 66 tackles (43 solo and 23 assisted), 15.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

Nixon, a junior, has played in 22 games at Florida, making 13 starts. He was named to the 2009 SEC All-Freshman Team.

The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best interior lineman in college football. It is the third oldest award in college football. Three finalists will be named November 21 and the winner will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 8.
