Three Gators Named to Watch Lists

One day after putting zero players on the preseason First Team All-SEC, the Gators put three players on national watch lists. Running back Jeff Demps was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, while linebackers Jon Bostic and Jelani Jenkins were named to the Butkus Award watch list.

Jeff Demps was also a nominee for the Doak Walker Award, given to the top running back in college football, in 2009. He is coming off a 2010 season where he led the Gators in rushing yards (551), carries (92), yards per game (50.1) and all-purpose yards (927).

Demps has 1,901 career rushing yards on 269 carries for 17 touchdowns. He has averaged 7.1 yards per carry over his three-year career. Demps also has 209 receiving yards in three seasons.

Demps is one of 51 nominees for the award. The winner will be announced December 8 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show.

The Butkus Award is given annually to the nation's top linebacker.

Jon Bostic appeared in all 13 games as a sophomore, tying for third on the team with 57 tackles. He also recorded three interceptions, ranking him eighth nationally among linebackers.

Jelani Jenkins was a 2010 SEC All-Freshman team selection. He recorded 78 tackles, the most for any SEC freshman and 21st overall in the conference.

Florida has never had a Butkus Award winner. Alonzo Jackson, Tim Paulk, Jevon Kearse and Brandon Spikes were all named finalists.

The award will also be given out at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
