Murphy Cleared to Rejoin Team

Florida junior forward Erik Murphy has been cleared by head coach Billy Donovan to rejoin the team. His involvement with the team had been limited since he faced a legal charge that was dropped to misdemeanor trespassing outside a restaurant in St. Augustine in April.

"Erik Murphy has served his punishment,'' head coach Billy Donovan said. "We're all disappointed with what transpired, but there's no question Erik has learned a great deal through the whole process and understands what a great opportunity and privilege it is to play college basketball.''

Murphy averaged 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 2010-11. Heading into his junior season, he is expected to start on the frontcourt with center Patric Young. It will be a young frontcourt led by inexperienced players. Murphy's 66 games played make him the most experienced frontcourt player that will return for this season.

The Gators lost Vernon Macklin, Chandler Parsons and Alex Tyus from last year's team. Florida will play an exhibition game at home on November 3 against Catholic University before hosting Jackson State to open the 2011-12 season on November 11.
