Brice Johnson Readies for Gator Visit

His stock soared in July as Brice Johnson showed off his game in AAU play. The 6-9, 190 pound power forward is an athletic player with deceptive range in his jumper and a shot blocking machine on defense. Johnson has taken two official visits to big time basketball programs in North Carolina. He has one official left in about a week and he is just cruising along waiting for things to play out.

A good student, Brice Johnson is finding his school work "just a little boring" at the moment. That may have o do with an impending decision in a little over a month on where he will be going to school to further his education after high school.

When he isn't in class getting ready Johnson tries to spend time in the gym at Edisto HS in Cordova (SC), at least when he can.

I am just shooting whenever I can get into the gym," he said of his workouts this time of year. "It's kind of hard to do anything when we only have one gym and everyone is trying to use it."

It is coming down to the wire as Johnson will be signing during the early signing period in November. Right now five programs, which include North Carolina, Florida, South Carolina, N.C. State, and Clemson, are still coming by his school and checking him out when they can.

Johnson has been a hot commodity for a while, but saw his stock soar in July while playing on the AAU circuit. Scouts from everywhere were in attendance and when asked if it was just because they weren't paying attention or that he go t better, Johnson replied, "I did get better and it is probably a little of both".

Johnson has had a visit set for Florida for a while now and confirmed on Thursday that the visit for the Florida – Alabama football weekend in Gainesville is still on. He already knows a lot about the program having already visited.

I am looking for everything, but I have already been down there before," he said. "It's just a good school and program all around."

There has been some question as to whether Johnson will make in-state visits to Clemson and South Carolina before he makes his collegiate decision sometime in October. That isn't exactly cleared up at this time.

"(I will visit) if I find a weekend, because I have to schedule around my dad's schedule," he said of visiting the two in-state schools.

As mentioned above, Johnson plans on being an early signee and he knows what he will base his final decision on.

"It will be a decision based on the best academic plan," he said. "It can't be too far from home, and about who will take care of me while I am away from my dad."
