Hollywood & Higdon Bold Game Week Predictions

The prediction of most is a low scoring defensive show down in The Swamp. Alabama and their big time rushing offense invades Gainesville to face Florida's big time rushing offense. Both teams may have better rush defenses than offenses making it appear to be a defensive struggle. However, in our bold predictions segment, we don't think so. Check to see what Jason Higdon and Bob Redman say.

Fightin' Gators' Jason Higdon and Bob Redman each bring you three bold predictions.

From the desk of Jason Higdon…

High Octane Offense…
Looking at the numbers this is easy to figure out this is going to be a defensive game or is it? Florida ranks 5th in rush defense 56 yards per game while Alabama is 3rd at 45 yards per game. Pass Efficiency Defense has Florida at 8th at 95 while Alabama checks in at number two at 75. Both Alabama and Florida are top five in America in total defense, Florida gives up 231 yards per game while the Tide are at 184 yards per game allowed. Florida checks in at number four in scoring defense at nine a game and Alabama is number two allowing eight points per game. What does it all mean? For me it means a shootout in Gainesville from both teams. Not that I pay attention mind you but the over/under in this game is 44 points. I will take the over by three touchdowns and go with 35-30 Gators.

What's that brown thing flying through the air?
The Alabama defense will be geared to stop the run on Saturday night believing if they stop Demps and Rainey the game will be over. Not so fast my friend as Charlie Weis and the Gator offense will come out slinging the ball all over the field to the tune of 300 yards passing on the night or close to 100 yards over their season average.

General Patton to the rescue…
With lots of scoring both teams will get plenty of chances in the return game namely wide receiver Solomon Patton. Patton will shine this week as he will take one to the house in the second half to put this one away.

From the desk of ‘Hollywood' Bob Redman…

Say whaaaaaaa???
All we have talked about all week is the running game for both teams. Alabama and their monster backs with elite speed and Florida with their small guys with better than elite speed and quickness. I think Florida contains Alabama's running game and if the can keep them breaking a couple of big ones, the Gators will win. My bold prediction says that Florida holds Alabama under 100 rushing yards on the day.

Don't blink…
If you closed your eyes for a second or two last week on Jeff Demps 84 yard run you may have missed the whole thing. Demps looked on that one run healthier than I have seen him as a Gator football player. Remember a year ago Demps ran 26 times against Tennessee, then was hurt a week later, and never really got back into a groove because of injuries. He ran for 11 times and 47 yards against Alabama, which isn't bad, but not the norm for the speedster. My bold prediction for the Florida Flash is that will account for over 300 all-purpose yards against Bama and that bodes well for the final score.

Paper or plastic…
If the Gators are going to help Jeff Demps to a 300 all-purpose yard performance Saturday and if they are going to hold Alabama to 100 yards rushing, that means Bama is going to have to throw the ball to try and win. That isn't good for them. A.J. McCarron is a solid quarterback but he isn't a guy they want to lean on. If the gators can force Bama into passing situations, they have already given up eight sacks on the year. So, to make my previous two bold predictions work, my third bold prediction will be that the Gators get five sacks on a team that won't want to but have to drop back and pass.
