Gators in the NFL: Week Four

There were 25 former Florida players listed as active this weekend on NFL roster. Of the 25, there were 17 who started for their NFL team. Rex Grossman was the only former Florida player to reach the end zone over the weekend.

Quarterback Rex Grossman helped the Washington Redskins to a 3-1 start. The former Florida quarterback went 15-for-29 through the air, passing for 143 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Grossman hit his former teammate Jabar Gaffney for four receptions and 62 yards.

The Cincinnati Bengals continued to get contribution from a trio of Florida players. Carlos Dunlap had his first career NFL start and recorded two tackles, one quarterback hurry and one pass defended. Reggie Nelson started at free safety and had seven total tackles. Wide receiver Andre Caldwell caught two passes for 17 yards.

A young trio of offensive linemen Florida has produced in the last two years continued their success. Offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert made his third career start for the Pittsburgh, as the Steelers also saw center Maurkice Pouncey record his 20th consecutive regular season start at center. Mike Pouncey made his third career NFL start at center for the Miami Dolphins.

Just as he did in college, Percy Harvin made an impact in multiple ways for the Minnesota Vikings over the weekend. Harvin started as a wide receiver and caught five passes for 42 yards while also having four rushes for 67 yards. Harvin also returned a kick for 25 yards.

Brandon Spikes started at outside linebacker and recorded six tackles for the New England Patriots. Tight end Aaron Hernandez wasn't active for the Patriots because of a knee injury. Jermaine Cunningham saw action but didn't record a stat.

After sitting out last week with an injury, Major Wright started at safety for the Chicago Bears. He made six tackles in his return to the secondary.

Cornerback Joe Haden started for the Cleveland Browns and recorded one tackle and two passes defended. After the game, Haden was diagnosed with a sprained left knee and was put in a protective brace. Browns head coach pat Shurmur said on Tuesday "there is a chance that (Haden) might miss some time."

Defensive end Jarvis Moss started and had one tackle, one tackle for a loss and one quarterback hurry for the Oakland Raiders. Cooper Carlisle earned his 106th career start as he lined up at right guard for the Raiders.

On Monday Night Football, backup running back Earnest Graham carried the ball twice for 24 yards and made three receptions for 27 yards for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Defensive tackle Ray McDonald started for the San Francisco 49ers and recorded one tackle, 0.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry.

Jeremy Mincey started at defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars and recorded three tackles, including one for a loss.

Punter Chas Henry had two punts for 87 yards, including a long of 45 yards.
