Gators in the NFL: Week Five

With multiple former Gators on their NFL bye week over the weekend, it was a familiar name that broke out. Tim Tebow started the second half at quarterback for Denver and almost led the Broncos back to a victory. On Monday, Tebow was named the starting quarterback when the Broncos return to action on October 24.

Tim Tebow started the final six possessions of the game and went 4-for-10 for 79 yards through the air with a touchdown. Tebow also added six rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Also in Denver, defensive tackle Marcus Thomas saw his first action of the season and recorded eight tackles. Derrick Harvey also added a tackle.

David Nelson continued his hot start, catching a six-yard touchdown pass for the Buffalo Bills. Linebacker Andra Davis also added a tackle in the Bills win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The trio for the Cincinnati Bengals was slowed in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Andre Caldwell had just two catches for 13 yards, while Carlos Dunlap recorded a quarterback hurry. Reggie Nelson started at free safety and had three tackles.

For the Jaguars, defensive end Jeremy Mincey had five tackles, one tackles for loss and four quarterback hurries.

Percy Harvin started at wide receiver and caught just one pass for 11 yards and had one rush for 12 yards.

The New England Patriots had four former Florida players on the field Sunday. Tight end Aaron Hernandez returned from injury to catch five passes for 56 yards. Brandon Spikes started at linebacker and had six tackles. Jermaine Cunningham had one tackle, and Gerard Warren saw his first action of the season.

Punter Chas Henry had two punts for 72 yards for the Philadelphia Eagles, including one that landed inside the 20-yard line. Riley Cooper added a special teams tackle.

There were three former Florida offensive linemen for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Maurkice Pouncey had his 21st straight regular season start at center, while rookie Marcus Gilbert made his fourth career NFL start. Max Starks was signed by the Steelers during the previous week and saw plenty of time at offensive tackle.

Defensive tackle Ray McDonald started at defensive tackle and had one tackle for the San Francisco 49ers. Running back Earnest Graham had five carries for 30 yards for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and could see increased playing time as starting running back LeGarrette Blount was injured.
