Beal, Young Named to Naismith Watch List

Two Florida underclassmen found their names on the Naismith Award Preseason Watch List that was announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Monday afternoon. The club's board will put together a midseason list of 30 players in late February.

Freshman Brad Beal will take the court for his first official game as a Florida basketball player this Friday against Jackson State, but he was selected to the Naismith list based on what he can do. Beal was the 2011 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year after averaging 32.5 points and 5.7 rebounds as a senior at Chaminade Prep.

Beal scored 20 points and pulled down five rebounds while not committing a turnover in Florida's exhibition win over Catholic University.

Sophomore center Patric Young was also selected to the Naismith Award Preseason Watch List after being selected to the SEC All-Freshman team last season. Young averaged 3.4 points and 3.8 rebounds last season and is starting for the Gators this season after Chandler Parsons, Alex Tyus and Vernon Macklin all graduated.
