Three Florida freshmen were honored for their first seasons of college football on Thursday as Chaz Green, Marcus Roberson and Pop Saunders each received honors for their play. The Gators had plenty of young players on the field this season, but the trio of freshmen played well all season. Though Green and Roberson battled injuries, the three of freshmen improved as the season came to a close.
Offensive tackle Chaz Green
was named to the Freshman All-SEC team and a member of the FoxSportsNext 2011 Freshman All-America Team. Green started eight games at tackle for the Gators this season while dealing with injuries. In the games that Green started, the Gators ran the ball for 1,284 yards and 12 touchdowns and pass for 1,376 yards and seven touchdowns.
Defensive back Pop Saunders played in 11 games and stated in nine for Florida this season. Saunders recorded 22 tackles, two interceptions (against South Carolina and Furman), while he returned one of those interceptions for a touchdown. Saunders also forced a fumble.
Cornerback Marcus Roberson was named to the FoxSportsNext Freshman All-America Team. Roberson played in and started ten games this season before a neck injury in the game against South Carolina ended his season. He recorded 22 total tackles, one interception, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery on the season. Roberson also added half of a tackle for a loss.
