Gators in the NFL: Week 17

There were 28 former Gators active for the final week of the NFL season. Of those 28, 19 were tabbed as starters for their respective team. Percy Harvin, Aaron Hernandez and Rex Grossman all recorded touchdowns in the final week. The playoffs begin next weekend, with five of the eight teams playing next weekend having at least one Gator on it.

The Cincinnati Bengals lost, but because of help from other teams, they will still play next weekend in the first round of the playoffs. Carlos Dunlap had six tackles in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens, while also adding half a sack and one quarterback hurry. Reggie Nelson started at free safety and had two tackles. Andre Caldwell was placed on injured reserve with a groin/abdominal injury.

The Denver Broncos also lost, but because the Oakland Raiders lost, too, the Broncos will host a playoff game next weekend against the Steelers. Tim Tebow went 6-for-22 through the air for 60 yards and an interception. He ran the ball six times for 16 yards. Marcus Thomas started at defensive tackle and made three tackles, including one for a loss.

Jeremy Mincey ended his breakout season with one of his best games. The Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end had five tackles, two and a half sacks, two forced fumbles and one quarterback hurry.

Percy Harvin started at wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings and caught ten passes for 115 yards. He also carried the ball five times for 13 yards and one touchdown.

Aaron Hernandez caught seven passes for 138 yards and a touchdown for the New England Patriots. Brandon Spikes returned from injury and made three tackles. Gerard Warren was active and didn't record a statistic. Jermaine Cunningham was placed on injured reserve weeks ago with a leg injury.

Rex Grossman went 22-for-45 for 256 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Washington Redskins. Jabar Gaffney caught four of those passes for 28 yards. Rookie Maurice Hurt started at left guard in the loss.

Major Wright has continued to play well since getting a starting position this season for the Chicago Bears. Wright started at free safety and was second on the team with nine tackles and one pass defended.

The Oakland Raiders would've made the playoffs with a win, but they were eliminated with a loss to the San Diego Chargers. Cooper Carlisle started at right guard for the Raiders, making his 117th career start. Louis Murphy started at wide receiver and had five catches for 72 yards and one carry for 27 yards. Jarvis Moss made two tackles. Lito Sheppard started at cornerback and made five tackles.

Ahmad Black made three tackles and recorded his first career fumble for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

David Nelson ended his season with two catches and 23 yards for the Buffalo Bills. Andra Davis made one tackle.

Chas Henry had four punts for 201 yards and a long of 56. He landed one punt inside the 20-yard line. Riley Cooper had one special teams tackle in a win over the Redskins.

Ray McDonald recorded just one tackle after started at defensive tackle for the San Francisco 49ers. His team will enjoy a bye week before playing in the playoffs two weekends from now.

The Pittsburgh Steelers started three Gators on their offensive line Sunday. Marcus Gilbert started at right tackle and started in 13 of the 14 games he played in during his rookie year. Max Starks started at left tackle, making his 80th career start. Maurkice Pouncey started at center, making the 30th start of his two-year NFL career.

Mike Pouncey started at center for the Miami Dolphins to make his 16th consecutive start to begin his rookie season.
