DE Bryan Cox Jr. is a Gator

The Florida Gators received good news on Saturday when St. Thomas Aquinas defensive end Bryan Cox gave his verbal pledge to Will Muschamp while on his official visit. Cox is the 19th commitment for Florida in the 2012 class, a class that is currently ranked fifth in the nation and climbing.

Cox will start off at the BUCK or defensive end position with the Gators something he is used to doing as a high school star at Aquinas.

Florida has a huge need at defensive end and would inevitably like to sign four at the position. Cox showed up well at Florida'S Friday night Light's camp in July and the staff stayed on him throughout the recruiting process.

Cox's father, Bryan Cox, played football for Florida head coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn when Cox played for the NFL's Miami Dolphins in 2005. The three have maintained a friendly relationship ever since.

Cox was busy during his official visit to Florida but was able to send this message to

"I chose them because I get a great vibe from the Gator Nation," he said of his commitment to Coach Muschamp on Saturday. "I fit well into the system and a degree from Florida means something. The academics are outstanding and I am really impressed with the coaching staff." analyst Chad Simmons scouted Cox early in the 2011 season and said of the 6-3, 230 pound Cox, "he plays with a motor" and shows "good athleticism and toughness".
