Auburn Trip A Good One For Talented 2013 DB

Junior Nick Washington discusses a junior day visit to one of his favorites, the Auburn Tigers.

Jacksonville, Fla.—Already a four-star prospect and one of the top safety prospects in the country for 2013, Nick Washington was on hand for Auburn's first Junior Day for his class and said the experience went well for him as he got to check out one of his favorites.

"They are definitely in my top group," Washington said. "Auburn is like a family-based school. They had an upcoming year. They were projected to only have like three wins this year and they came out with the freshmen (won eight games). They are not afraid to play freshmen as you saw this year."

One of the biggest parts of the visit for Washington was having the opportunity to sit down and talk with Auburn's new defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder. Coming from the NFL's Atlanta Falcons with a history of coaching in the SEC as well, Washington said he liked everything about the new coach.

"He's a good defensive coordinator," Washington said. "He's very serious. He knows his stuff. He's very smart. It shows me they are very serious about what they are doing and that they are trying to get back to the national championship this year coming up."

Sitting down with Coach Gene Chizik, Washington said the coach told him he would like to see him play for the Tigers, but to keep his options open when looking at a school. Washington said Chizik also talked about VanGorder and his defensive prowess, something he got a chance to see from VanGorder himself.

"He showed a presentation and the stuff he was showing was complicated because it was NFL stuff, but if you go it then it made sense," Washington said. "You could definitely tell it's going to work."

In addition to Auburn Washington said he's also looking at a strong group of six total schools. Alabama, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, and Clemson are in the mix along with the Tigers for Washington as he begins the process towards making a decision.

"I'm pretty sure I'll make it before signing day (2013)," Washington said. "I'm looking for a family-based team and a good education. Everybody wants to play on a winning team. Also good coaches."
