The recent success on the diamond for Florida baseball and softball doesn't look like it will change much this season. Both programs have been to the College World Series during the last two seasons, and they'll both open the year ranked in the top five.
For the baseball team, Tuesday saw yet another No. 1 ranking. Baseball America released its preseason poll and had the Gators at the top for the second consecutive year. The SEC was all over the top of the poll, as six of the top 11 teams in the poll were from the conference. Texas A&M
, who will join the conference next season, would have made it seven of the top 11.
South Carolina will start its quest for a third straight national championship at No. 3 in the poll with SEC foe Arkansas at No. 4. LSU at No. 8, Vanderbilt at No. 10 and Georgia at No. 11 closed out the dominance at the top of the poll.
Other Florida opponents in the poll were Miami at No. 19, Florida State at No. 20, UCF at No. 21, Ole Miss at No. 22 and Florida's opening weekend opponent, Cal State Fullerton, at No. 25.
Two softball polls came out Tuesday morning and found different spots for the Gators. Florida will start the season at No. 2 in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason poll. The Gators will start at No. 4 in the ASA softball poll.
Florida baseball will start the season February 17 when it hosts Cal State Fullerton. Florida softball will start the season February 10 in the USF-Fairfield Inn Tournament in Tampa.
