"I had my mind made up for what I wanted to do," Lawson told Scout.com after his visit Saturday. "I told my coach before I showed up that I wanted to commit and he told me to take that shot if that is what I wanted to do. So, I told Coach Bryant Young that I was going to commit and he said that was cool."
For Lawson, the UF coaches just impressed him when they came by his school, hardly talked to him, yet made it known that they had serious interest in the young man.
"Coach Young and Coach Muschamp came by my school two months ago and walked in the weight room when I was lifting weights," he said. "Then they told my coach they wanted to offer me and that I needed to commit. So, I just knew when I showed up I knew I wanted to commit."
While at Florida the menacing linebacker had a great time.
"It was a great day seeing the University of Florida I met the players and the coaches showed me lots of love," he said. "I thought it felt like home.
"It was just fun meeting the players and getting the tour around the campus with our defensive players. I ate with the coaches and Coach D.J. Durkin, the linebacker coach. I met the guys that were also committing to Florida. I liked their program and their uniforms. I liked the nutrition program and the weight room."
As unknown as he might be to Florida fans right now, The 6-2, 218 pound Lawson has a nice list of suitors for someone that is so under the radar.
For the gators, they told Lawson he is suited for their defense just fine.
"They really want me at outside linebacker and in the 4-3 or the 3-4," he said. "They will have me at both outside linebacker and defensive end.
