The Moment Was Right For Powell

Quinton Powell grew up following the Gators. Before his junior day visit Saturday, the possibility of committing to Florida had crossed his mind, but he wasn't sure if he'd follow through. Once he got on campus and started talking to the coaches, the opportunity was irresistible. Powell committed to Florida on the spot.

Before arriving, Quinton Powell had talked about the possibility of committing to Florida with his dad who encouraged him to make the commitment if he felt right about it. When the moment actually arrived, Powell said it was surreal.

"It felt fake, I never expected to even have the opportunity to even play for the Gators, so just them giving me the opportunity and giving me a scholarship was just overwhelming," Powell said.

"(The coaches) were shocked. Coach Muschamp hugged me, all the coaches hugged me. They were just excited."

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound outside linebacker followed the Gators for most of his life and is still adjusting to the idea that he will play for the orange and blue.

"I think (for) every athlete that's raised in Florida, that's their number one dream going to Florida."

Powell can't wait to bring his fire and relentlessness to that outside linebacker spot.

"I'm energetic, I like to bounce around, I'm hyped all the time."

"I'm everywhere around the ball, wherever the ball is I'm going to try to make it," he said.

"I'm everywhere the ball is."

While Powell wasn't one-hundred percent sure he would commit to Florida until he arrived on campus, he says his commitment is solid and he's not planning on taking other visits anytime soon.

"At this moment, I'm really committed right now. As far as seeing any other schools right now, no I don't think I will, but maybe in the summer I might go to different camps to learn different things. Right now, no junior days or anything like that."
