"I kind of knew, I just wasn't sure," he said about making the decision that day. "I let my parents and grandparents come and they liked it." He went to a Florida baseball game that day and was able to sit in the dugout for a bit before the game to watch the number one rated baseball team. Washington is a big time baseball play and will be afforded the opportunity to play both sports in Gainesville.
After his time with the baseball team, he headed over to the football stadium and a conference with Will Muschamp, defensive back coach Travaris Robinson, and company. That is when he went ahead and made it known.
"It just felt like it was the place for me," he said. "It was a god atmosphere, family based team, I had a good relationship with Coach T-Rob, I just felt great there."
It made Florida's head coach a happy man as well. "Coach Muschamp was very excited when I did it, very happy," he said.
Washington's father was there that day and has been someone he can lean on during the process. Dad is now a happy man.
"My father loves it and glad I did it," nick said.
Washington is almost fully recovered from a shoulder injury and will be playing baseball very soon. In the meantime, he has a couple of friends in Jacksonville in receiver Ahmad Fulwood and defensive end Demarcus Walker that he is pushing to Florida. Just don't expect him to get pushy with others he doesn't know very well.
"I am kind of like a shy kid, so I'm not really going to pressure other kids because I didn't like to be pressured," Washington said. "I hate being asked constantly about it."
