FSU Commit Still Considering Options

Top 2013 defensive tackle Maquedius Bain committed to Florida State in November, but has recently decided to take another look at his options. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound junior from University School of Nova Southeastern (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) remains committed to the Noles, but wants to more carefully consider all his offers.

"(I'm) keeping my options open, making sure I don't regret anything in the long run once I get older, making sure this is the right place that I want to go and put my family in," Maquedius Bain said.

Bain continues to pick up new offers and more recently he's been offered by USC, LSU, Louisville, Miami, and Alabama. He says Florida State continues to lead, but Miami and Alabama round out his current top three schools. LSU and USF are in the mix as well.

Bain was quite impressed with the University of Miami on his junior day visit there.

"It was great, I spent time with a lot of the coaches, especially the head coach," he said. "The academics are wonderful, that's what I'm looking for, a strong academic program."

"They're trying to build UM like it was back in the day, and I respect that."

Bain also likes the way the Alabama football program focuses on much more than just football.

"Nick Saban produces some great kids, they were the highest in graduation of football players, so I like that. He pushes his kids outside of football, they give back to the community," he said.

Don't rule the Trojans of Southern Cal out of this one. Bain wants to take a visit there and expects his friend Nelson Agholor, a 2012 USC signee, to be recruiting him there.

"I was surprised I got an offer from them, they don't really offer d-linemen too much," he said. "I'm pretty sure (Nelson) will talk to me about going there"

The talented defensive tackle is also expecting Florida to be in his top schools at the end of the process. He grew up a fan of FSU and WVU, but also cheered for the Gators for a few years, and his room remains decked out in orange and blue.

Bain will do some serious traveling over Spring and into Summer. He's planning on visiting Miami, Florida, and Florida State for their spring practices, and really take his time before making a solid decision.

"I'm going to take a lot of visits, weigh my options out, see what's in my best interest," Bain said.

"Growing up as a kid, I didn't think I'd have this much attention. It's surprising me but I'm just staying humble and getting my work done."
