Florida Tabbed With No. 7 Seed

The Gators will open their NCAA Tournament schedule on Friday as the No. 7 seed in the West Regional in Omaha. Florida will take on No. 10 seed Virginia (22-9) in the first round. The Cavaliers come into the NCAA Tournament after losing in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.

Florida enters the NCAA Tournament with a 23-10 overall record. Under Billy Donovan, the Gators are 25-9 (.735) in NCAA Tournament play.

"It's always an honor to be part of the NCAA Tournament, and we're excited about playing," Donovan said. "We know we have a great challenge ahead of us in Virginia and look forward to competing on this stage."

In the only previous meetings between the two teams, the Cavaliers beat the Gators 62-56 in the 1992 NIT. The time for Friday's game will be announced later.

"We're all really excited to play in the tournament," Florida senior Erving Walker said. "We have a lot to learn about Virginia over the next few days, but I know our coaches will do a great job preparing us."

If Florida can beat Virginia, it would play the winner of No. 2 Missouri and No. 15 Norfolk State on Sunday. The winner of that game will head to the Sweet 16 from the West Regional and play in Phoenix the following weekend.
