RECRUITING EVALUATION: Lamar Lewis

When it comes to solid two-way performers, this Jacksonville Trinity Christian star may be in a league by himself!

While you can find out just so much about watching film on an athlete or talking to him on the phone, there is a major advantage to seeing the athlete live. I have been fortunate to see more high school football players in person in the state of Florida than any other source. What I will do is use my 30 plus years of evaluating talent on the football field to give up a complete opinion on the top football players in the Class of 2004. I hope you enjoy this rare look into the football players in the state from a first-hand. LIVE vantage point:

THE SCOOP ON THIS FLORIDA KID:
The classic great things come in small packages applies here, perhaps more than anyone else I've had the pleasure of watching. Speed, strength, quickness and very coachable could sum this talented young man up.

EVALUATION:
I have had the pleasure of watching him play three times. Once as a sophomore, where he stole the show with 167 yards on just nine carries, and twice last year. You could talk about his lack of overall size all day, and you will never get me to pay attention. I watched him against Miami Pace early last season and in the state title game against Delray American Heritage. He slashes, catches the ball and breaks tackles on offense – and simply makes you pay on the defensive side of the ball. I see him as a defensive back at the next level with a key role on special teams. It's not that I don't think he wouldn't be a premier back, but I think he would better serve a program on defense.

THE INSIDE STORY:
As his coach Verlon Dorminey told me last year, "Lamar can do what ever Lamar wants to do. He's that special!"
