Massachusetts OG Wants to Visit Gators & More

2013 offensive guard John Montelus has over fifteen offers, and no real leaders at this point. There are a few schools that he definitely wants to visit over the next few weeks and months. Get the latest on the 6-foot-5, 295-pound junior here.

John Montelus has plenty of offers to date, including Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Syracuse, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, and Rutgers, but says he wants to take some time before narrowing his list down.

"I don't have a favorite right now, all the schools are standing out, but I'll probably have a top seven schools by the end of the summer," he said.

He's hoping to visit Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Rutgers if he can. He likes what the Florida program has to offer and says he calls the coaches once a week.

"I think it's going to get better, I was planning a visit to Florida on April 16th or 17th, when my vacation starts."

"I was talking to Coach Verducci, and I'm talking to the new offensive line coach (Tim Davis) now. He sounds like a really good guy."

Montelus feels like he could easily fit into the Florida offense because it's a lot like the one he plays in now at Everett High School. The Crimson Tide run an up-tempo, no-huddle offense.

"They said I'm a really athletic kid and I could fit in playing for them because at my school we run a (similar offense), so it wouldn't be hard for me at all," Montelus said.

"I can both pass block and run block because I'm quick with my feet because I used to play basketball.

Notre Dame and Ohio State are also on the travel list for the lineman, he hopes to learn more about both programs.

"I hear (Notre Dame) is a really good school, academically it's a really good school," he said.

"(Ohio State) is a really good school they have great coaches there and that program will build up again."

He says Boston College is also putting on the full court press.

Geography is not going to be a factor in Montelus' decision, but he is looking for a good education and a winning program.

"(I want) good academics first, good coaching staff, good atmosphere and winning a championship."
