Gators and Irish Up Next for Montelus

For Everett (MA) offensive guard John Montelus, his visits to Florida and Notre Dame are quickly approaching. The powerful offensive lineman plans to take advantage of his vacation time by exploring two of the schools that he is receiving interest from.

"Recruiting is going good. I'm going to Florida and Notre Dame soon so I'm excited about that," John Montelus said.

At this point, Montelus has offers from Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Rutgers, Vanderbilt and a few other schools. The big lineman does not claim any leaders yet, but he plans on changing that very soon.

"I don't really have a list yet, but I'll probably have one soon. I'll probably do that in the summer," he said.

"Right now, I kind of cut some schools off, but I'm just not saying names until I have a top ten or top five schools," he added.

For now, the talented offensive lineman is unsure of when he will make his final decision.

"Right now, I think I'm probably going to take all of my officials, but I'm not sure. [A decision] could come any time. I don't really have a time figured out right now," he said.

Now that his trip to Florida is right around the corner, Montelus is getting excited about traveling to Gainesville.

"Florida has a good coaching staff and I'm looking forward to seeing if I really like the school," he said.

Florida's coaches have not been shy about their interest in the 6-foot-5, 295-pound lineman.

"I talk to them once a week. They said I have really quick feet for a guy with my size. Right now they are telling me that I'm their missing piece for their offensive line," Montelus said.

"They are pressuring me, but I really like it because once I visit I'll know everything about Florida. They definitely want me to commit," he confessed.

Florida's constant communication with Montelus appears to have paid off.

"I definitely have a good relationship with [offensive line coach Tim Davis] at Florida," he said.

In addition to his trip to Florida, Montelus is also looking forward to his upcoming visit to South Bend.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing Notre Dame so hopefully I really like it," he said.

So far, Montelus has enjoyed getting to know Notre Dame's coaches.

"I have a pretty good relationship with [Notre Dame defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Bob Diaco]" he said.

According to Montelus, his aggressiveness and versatility as a blocker are some of the reasons that he is attracting so much attention.

"I'm really aggressive. I can pass block and run block. I really don't care, I like doing both running and pass blocking," he said.
