"Will Muschamp came in and I got to speak with him and he told me they were interested," Ivie said via phone late Monday. "I left on a good note. I kind of figured they were going to offer, but you are never too sure."
One of the things the Florida staff wanted to do was come by and see Ivie suit up and hit in pads. That happened late last week when defensive coordinator Dan Quinn went by the school and that trip inevitably got the ball really rolling. After a Monday morning staff meeting in Gainesville, all parties were on the same page, and the Florida staff made the call to the coaches at Pasco.
"Coach Quinn then came by my practice on Friday and liked what he saw and wants to get me to become a Gator," Ivie said. "Today my coach told me to call coach Muschamp and he didn't answer. So, I ended up talking to coach Brian White (the area recruiting coach) and he finally ended up talking to Coach Muschamp. He told me they were very interested in me and that he wanted me and he wanted me to become a Gator. It is definitely a great offer and opportunity and things are going great right now.
"It was very cool to be offered by the head coach. I felt very blessed and happy. I felt like just another great opportunity came in."
Ivie is one of those players that is always running in pursuit of the ball and that In combination with his size and athleticism has college coaches thinking big things are ahead for the young man.
"Coach Quinn just likes the way I play ball, he likes how I don't give up on a play," he said. "All the coaches think I have a good motor, hands, and feet on me. They think I would be a good asset to the school. "
Because of his skill set he could be a multiple player and play inside or out.
"Florida is saying a three-technique, defensive end or tackle," he said. "I weigh about 270, and can play either one. I like inside or outside. I just want to play d-line. Wherever they want me to play I will play. I just want to do what is best for me and the team and whatever is going to take me the furthest."
The hits keep coming for the fast rising defender and he really isn't sure when he may make a decision.
"I have 14 offers and a couple of schools are supposed to offer soon, Missouri, Rutgers, and Tennessee are three that may offer soon," he said. "Tennessee is real interested and wants me to come up there and visit.
"I have no timetable… I would like to do it before the season, but you never know."
He has an idea of what he wants and a lot of it revolves around finding a place that best pushes him to excel to the final level of the sport he loves.
"It is going to be where I fit in and feel comfortable," he said. "I want a great team that has a potential of having a great season. I want to go somewhere where I have a shot of playing early and somewhere that I have a shot of building myself up for my four years.
"Everyone has a dream of being in the league and I just want a place I can work for that. I also want a place that is good educational wise."
