Damontre Harris Transfers to Florida

The Gators picked up an important piece for the future of the frontcourt on Saturday when South Carolina transfer Damontre Harris announced his intentions to transfer to Florida. He blocked 71 shots in 31 games for the Gamecocks last season, and after sitting out because of NCAA transfer rules for the 2012-13 season, Harris will give the Gators a defensive presence near the basket.

As a sophomore last season, Damonte Harris averaged 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds during 25.9 minutes per game in the South Carolina frontcourt. He shot 55% (93-151) from the field and 80.4% from the free throw line as a sophomore.

As a freshman, Harris averaged 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game. He started 19 games during his first year in Columbia.

Harris led or shared the team lead in rebounding 13 times, blocks 19 times and posted nine double-figure scoring games during the 2011-12 season.

The SEC coaches voted Harris to the SEC All-Defensive Team this season. No Florida players made the list.
